The Weeping Pine Tree

A closer view of the weeping pine’s long, graceful branches reveals its unique and beautiful texture. Vibrant green needles stand out against its muted grey bark that has been carved by the elements. But behind this beautiful tree hides a wonderful surprise!

Hidden under the branches of the weeping pine is this apple crusher. The stone trough, which had a circular stone wheel pulled round by one or more horses to crush the apples to pulp, is properly called an apple crusher, although in common parlance today it is frequently known as a cider press. Many ‘knowledgeable’ people can be quite pedantic about this but in Normandy, where the same stone devices are still in use on some farms, they are known as pressoirs a ronde, so they are just as much a press as a crusher.

Our three horses; Denzel the boss, Whisper the cheeky pony and Frazer who has passed away now all chilling after a hard day munching hay and grass! They have 6 acres to explore and have free access to communal stables if they want to escape the sun. We also barefoot trim our horses and you could have the chance to see this being done.

The bedrooms are comfortable and generous in size. Fresh bedding and towels are supplied for your stay and if you have any special requests we will do our best to satisfy them. We have 1 double room with kingsize bed and two double rooms each with 2 single beds.

Our dog, Nounours (which translates to Teddy) came from a rescue centre in the Charente Maritime region. He came to us in October 2022 and is settling in nicely with the horses and French Franc the cat.

The views at the rear of the property are just stunning. Open far reaching views where you can see the wildlife at home. Buzzards, deer and even wild boar roam around and if you’re lucky you’ll see them.

The heated salt water pool is 10m x 5m and provides the perfect place to relax. Whether you fancy a dip or just sit and watch the sun go down you can’t help but feel good. Unless you like cold water swimming we only heat the pool between May and September.

The latest addition are our three chickens who provide three fresh eggs most days. I often pull up a chair and just watch them scatting around the ground clucking away to themselves happily. They are housed in the old piggery so have plenty of space to roam around.

Fishing isn’t everyone’s idea of fun but it can be so relaxing. We have access to a private fishing lake just a 30 minute drive away. We often grab a picnic or take a bar-b-que and spend the day there in the peace and tranquility.
